Global K-pop superstars BTS created a historic moment in Mexico City after meeting Mexican President Claudia Sheinbaum during their ongoing world tour for the new album ARIRANG.
Ahead of their sold-out concerts in Mexico City, BTS members RM, Jin, SUGA, j-hope, Jimin, V, and Jung Kook visited the Mexican Presidential Palace, where they greeted thousands of local fans from the famous balcony overlooking the city’s central square, the Zócalo.
President Sheinbaum shared photos with the group on Instagram on May 6 (local time), warmly welcoming BTS and calling them “one of the most beloved groups among Mexican youth.” She also praised the group’s global influence, saying that “music is bringing the two countries together.”
The released images showed BTS standing alongside the Mexican president inside the historic National Palace. Another widely shared moment captured RM addressing cheering fans from the presidential balcony while the members waved and made heart gestures toward the crowd below.
According to local reports, nearly 50,000 fans gathered at the Zócalo to catch a glimpse of BTS, turning the city center into a massive celebration of K-pop culture. Fans reportedly sang along, waved purple lights, and erupted into cheers as the members appeared above the square.
President Sheinbaum had previously mentioned BTS during her regular “Mañanera” press briefing, describing the group as artists who consistently deliver messages of friendship, peace, and love.
The Mexico visit is part of BTS’s global ARIRANG world tour. The group is scheduled to perform three solo concerts at Estadio GNP Seguros on May 7, 9, and 10. All tickets sold out immediately after reservations opened, once again proving BTS’s overwhelming global ticket power.
In a surprising diplomatic detail, President Sheinbaum reportedly even sent a letter to South Korean President Lee Jae-myung requesting additional BTS concert dates in Mexico, calling the concerts a “historic” event for the country.
The moment has quickly gone viral across global social media, with fans calling it another example of BTS’s unprecedented cultural and diplomatic influence worldwide.
