Netflix’s animated film “K-Pop Demon Hunters” earned one of the most prestigious honors at the 2025 MAMA Awards, taking home the Music Visionary of the Year trophy.
The award was announced on November 29 (KST) during Day 2 of the ceremony held at Hong Kong Kai Tak Stadium. This special category recognizes content that successfully blends music, visual storytelling, and narrative creativity, while also contributing to global industry expansion. This year, Netflix’s groundbreaking animation claimed the spotlight.
Directors Maggie Kang and Chris Appelhans, who took the stage together, began their speech by offering condolences to the victims of the recent tragic fire in Hong Kong. They described the project as “a love letter to K-Pop,” adding, “We wanted to show how music has the power to connect and heal people around the world.”
Global Success of the OST
The film’s massive win is backed by extraordinary OST results on the global charts.
The title track “Golden” dominated the Billboard Hot 100, holding No. 1 for five consecutive weeks. The full OST album also topped the Billboard 200, making it the first soundtrack in 2025 to claim No. 1 on both major charts simultaneously.
This marks the first time in five years — since BTS’s “BE” in 2020 — that a K-pop project has achieved dual chart leadership on both the Hot 100 and Billboard 200.
A Historic Billboard Moment

Along with “Golden,” tracks “Soda Pop,” “Your Idol,” “How It’s Done,” and “What It Sounds Like” all entered the Hot 100 at the same time — an extremely rare achievement for an animated film OST.
