The global influence of K-Beauty continues to grow—this time in the heart of Paris. The Koreana Cosmetics Museum will participate in a major exhibition at Musée Guimet, France’s national museum dedicated to Asian art, highlighting the deep cultural roots behind today’s global K-Beauty phenomenon.

A Major K-Beauty Exhibition in Paris

The exhibition, titled “K-Beauty. Korean Beauty, Story of a Phenomenon,” will run from March 18 to July 6 in Paris.

Rather than focusing only on modern cosmetics trends, the exhibition explores the cultural and historical evolution of Korean beauty, tracing its development from the late 18th century to the present day.

Through artifacts, historical records, and cultural objects, visitors will discover how Korean beauty traditions shaped what the world now recognizes as K-Beauty.

8 Korean Institutions Join the Exhibition

A total of eight Korean national and private cultural institutions collaborated to bring the exhibition to life.

Among them, the Koreana Cosmetics Museum is the only private museum participating, highlighting its global reputation for preserving Korea’s beauty heritage.

The museum is also contributing the largest number of artifacts in the exhibition.

46 Historic Korean Beauty Artifacts on Display

The museum will lend 46 items from its collection, offering a rare glimpse into Korea’s historical beauty culture. These include:

  • Joseon Dynasty white porcelain cosmetic containers
  • Blue-and-white porcelain makeup vessels
  • Traditional vanity mirrors (Gyeongdae)
  • Early modern Korean cosmetics
  • Jewelry and beauty accessories
  • The historic medical text Dongui Bogam

Together, these objects reveal how beauty, health, and aesthetics were deeply connected in Korean culture.

K-Beauty: A Tradition Spanning Thousands of Years

Museum representatives emphasized that K-Beauty should not be seen merely as a modern industry trend.

Instead, they describe it as a cultural tradition that has evolved continuously since the Three Kingdoms period, shaped by philosophy, medicine, and aesthetics.

The exhibition aims to show global audiences that the success of modern K-Beauty is rooted in centuries of cultural heritage and craftsmanship.

By partnering with the Musée Guimet—one of Europe’s most respected Asian art museums—the exhibition is expected to further strengthen K-Beauty’s cultural influence in Europe.

KOREA FBI Editor’s Comment

K-Beauty is often associated with viral skincare routines, glass skin trends, and innovative cosmetics. But exhibitions like this remind the world that K-Beauty is not just a trend—it’s history, culture, and philosophy combined.

With Paris hosting this major exhibition, global audiences will see that today’s K-Beauty boom stands on hundreds of years of Korean beauty tradition.
