Global K-pop supergroup BTS has officially reached a new career high once again. Their 5th full-length album ARIRANG has recorded an incredible first-week sales number, proving that the group’s global popularity is stronger than ever — even after a 3-year-and-9-month hiatus.

According to Hanteo Chart on March 27, ARIRANG surpassed 4,169,464 copies in first-week sales, setting a new personal record for BTS.

A New Career High — Bigger Than ‘MAP OF THE SOUL : 7’

The album didn’t just perform well. It completely rewrote BTS’s own history.

Their previous record holder, MAP OF THE SOUL : 7, sold about 3.37 million copies in its first week back in 2020. But ARIRANG easily surpassed that number, showing that the group’s comeback power in 2026 is even stronger than at the peak of their global boom.

Even more impressive:

  • The album became a million-seller in just 10 minutes
  • It sold 3.98 million copies on the first day alone
  • It recorded the highest first-day album sales of 2026

This clearly proves how much global fans were waiting for BTS’s full-group comeback.

‘SWIM’ Dominates Apple Music and Spotify Worldwide

The momentum didn’t stop at physical sales. The title track SWIM is also dominating global streaming platforms.

On Apple Music, ARIRANG reached No.1 in 102 countries within one day, and later expanded to 115 countries worldwide. At the same time, BTS became the most-streamed artist globally on the day of the release.

On Spotify, the title track stayed at No.1 on the Daily Top Songs Global chart for six consecutive days (March 20–25) — another sign that the comeback has turned into a global phenomenon.

Japan Market Also Explodes — 7th No.1 Album on Oricon

The Japanese market reacted just as strongly. ARIRANG debuted directly at No.1 on the Oricon Weekly Combined Album Ranking (dated March 30), becoming BTS’s 7th No.1 album in Japan.

The album also topped:

  • Weekly Album Ranking
  • Weekly Digital Album Ranking

That means the group achieved a triple-crown on major Oricon charts — something only a few global artists can do.

A Meaningful Album About Identity, Growth, and Life

The album was executive-produced by Bang Si-hyuk, and focuses on themes like identity, growth, and universal emotions that people experience in real life.

The title track SWIM especially stands out for its message: even when life feels like a huge wave, you should keep swimming forward. That message is one of the main reasons why global listeners are connecting deeply with the album.

Fans Singing ‘Arirang’ Together in New York

BTS also held a special event in New York called “Spotify X BTS: SWIMSIDE,” where fans gathered even before the members appeared and started singing one of the album tracks together.

When the traditional Korean folk song Arirang part played, the entire audience sang along — creating one of the most emotional moments of the comeback era so far.

At the same time, Seoul is currently hosting the “BTS THE CITY ARIRANG SEOUL” project, turning the entire city into a cultural festival that both fans and locals can enjoy.

KOREA FBI Editor’s Comment

What makes this comeback special is not just the numbers. ARIRANG shows how BTS is evolving from a K-pop group into a global cultural symbol that connects music, emotions, and Korean identity.

If this trend continues, 2026 could become the year when BTS reaches an entirely new level of global influence.
