As excitement builds around the FIFA World Cup 2026, South Korea is bringing a vibrant celebration of culture to Mexico through a month-long K-Culture Festival that showcases the best of Korean music, food, art, and heritage.
The Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism of South Korea announced that a series of cultural events will take place throughout June across Mexico in cooperation with the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, the Embassy of the Republic of Korea in Mexico, and the Korean Cultural Center in Mexico.
The festival carries four themes — “Passion That Connects,” “Light That Connects,” “Views That Connect,” and “Rhythms That Connect” — highlighting the cultural bonds between South Korea and Mexico through diverse artistic experiences.
Mexico: A Key Hub for the Korean Wave in Latin America
Mexico has become one of the most influential centers of Hallyu (the Korean Wave) in Latin America. Interest in Korean culture continues to grow rapidly, driven by the popularity of K-pop, K-dramas, Korean beauty products, and Korean cuisine.
This year’s World Cup provides an even greater opportunity for cultural exchange. South Korea’s national football team is scheduled to play all three of its group-stage matches in Mexico, drawing thousands of Korean supporters and increasing local interest in Korean culture.
“Korea Day” Festival to Introduce Korean Lifestyle and Entertainment
One of the festival’s highlights will be “Día de Corea” (Korea Day), taking place on June 6 in Zapopan, Jalisco.
The event will combine K-food, K-culture, K-content, and K-sports into a large-scale cultural celebration designed for local residents and international football fans visiting Mexico during the World Cup.
Visitors will have the opportunity to experience Korean cuisine, cultural exhibitions, performances, and interactive activities that showcase Korea’s modern and traditional identity.
Spectacular Media Facade and Art Exhibitions
Also on June 6, renowned Korean media artist Lee Lee-Nam’s media facade project, “Luz que Une” (Light That Connects), will illuminate the exterior walls of the Basilica of Zapopan.
Additional exhibitions exploring Korean heritage through contemporary artistic interpretations will be presented at Mexico’s National Museum of World Cultures.
Meanwhile, special Korean promotional spaces and a National Museum of Korea “MUSEUMS” exhibition will be hosted in Mexico City, allowing visitors to discover Korea’s rich cultural history.
Traditional Performances Meet K-Pop Energy
The festival will feature performances by leading Korean traditional performing arts groups, including ON, K-Tigers, and The Gwangdae.
K-pop cover dance teams will also take the stage in Zapopan, Mexico City, and Monterrey, bringing the energy of Korean pop culture to enthusiastic local audiences.
By combining traditional Korean performances with modern K-pop entertainment, organizers hope to showcase the diversity and creativity of Korean culture to global visitors.
Strengthening Korea-Mexico Friendship Through Culture
South Korea’s Ministry of Culture and Ministry of Foreign Affairs emphasized that the FIFA World Cup 2026 serves as an important international platform for sharing the creativity and appeal of K-Culture with the world.
Officials stated that the cultural programs are designed to encourage meaningful exchanges between Korean and Mexican citizens while strengthening friendship and mutual understanding through shared experiences.
As football fans gather in Mexico for one of the world’s biggest sporting events, K-Culture is preparing to become one of the tournament’s most exciting off-the-field attractions.
