CJ CheilJedang has successfully wrapped up its “K-Food Cooking Class by Cuisine. K” in major U.S. cities, signaling another powerful step in the globalization of Korean cuisine.

The company announced on April 13 that its social contribution project “Cuisine. K” — launched in 2023 to promote and advance Korean food culture — recently hosted a series of immersive cooking classes in both Los Angeles and New York. Held from April 2 to 10, the program consisted of four sessions that introduced participants to authentic and modern interpretations of Korean cuisine.

What made this initiative particularly unique was its connection to K-content. The cooking classes were inspired by the globally popular tvN drama “The Tyrant’s Chef”, produced by Studio Dragon. Participants had the opportunity to recreate dishes featured in the series, blending entertainment with hands-on culinary experience — a strategic fusion of K-food and K-drama storytelling.

Leading the sessions were three highly skilled chefs — Noh Jin-hyung, Seo Ha-ram, and Kim Ji-yeon — all alumni of the Cuisine. K program and professionals with experience in Michelin Guide-listed restaurants. Their expertise brought authenticity and depth to the classes, elevating the learning experience beyond basic cooking.

The program was structured to offer both cultural insight and practical skills. Attendees first explored the concept of Hansang — Korea’s traditional full-course meal setting — along with the historical background of each dish. The chefs also highlighted how traditional Korean cuisine can be reinterpreted in modern, global contexts.

Following the cultural session, participants engaged in hands-on cooking. The featured menu included:

  • Galbijjim (Korean braised short ribs) reimagined with a French boeuf bourguignon twist
  • French Bibimbap, blending Korean flavors with Western plating styles
  • Jaecheop Doenjang Soup (freshwater clam soybean paste soup)

To ensure accessibility, CJ CheilJedang provided recipes using locally available ingredients, enabling participants to easily recreate the dishes at home — a key factor in spreading K-food beyond Korea.

This initiative highlights how K-food continues to evolve as a global cultural force, especially when combined with the storytelling power of K-content. By engaging international audiences through hands-on experiences, CJ CheilJedang is not only promoting Korean cuisine but also building deeper cultural connections worldwide.
