Foreign visitors dive into K-Beauty, tradition, and hands-on experiences through February 22

During the 2026 Korea Grand Sale, Seoul’s iconic districts Myeongdong and Bukchon are being transformed into immersive K-Beauty hubs, attracting foreign visitors eager to experience Korean beauty culture beyond simple shopping.

Running through February 22, the festival introduces temporary Welcome Centers and Play Lounges, each designed with a distinct visitor journey in mind—short, high-impact shopping experiences in Myeongdong, and deeper, stay-and-experience programs in Bukchon.

From Tteokbokki to Toner: Where K-Culture Meets K-Beauty

Inside a traditional hanok café in Bukchon, visitors are greeted with more than coffee. Korean snacks such as tteokbokki, fish cakes, and ramyeon are served alongside drinks, while low seating introduces guests to Korea’s ondol-based floor culture.

But the experience doesn’t stop there.

Descending into the basement reveals a striking contrast: a modern K-beauty space beneath a traditional structure. Here, visitors—both Korean and international—can enjoy free personal color analysis and makeup consultations, testing products on the spot.

Notably, the crowd isn’t limited to women. Male foreign visitors actively participate, asking detailed questions about shades that suit their skin. The scene reflects a broader shift in K-Beauty—no longer defined by gender, but by individuality and skin tone.

K-Stylish Experience: Tradition, Beauty, and One Seamless Journey

This space hosts the K-Stylish Experience Program, a curated route that blends traditional culture and modern K-Beauty content into one seamless flow designed specifically for international visitors.

The program took place at YLESS Bukchon Flagship Store, a beauty platform operated by Coreana Cosmetics, home to the globally popular multi-balm brand KAHI.

Expert Tips: The Core Principles of K-Beauty Makeup

The session was led by Lee Ki-sung, Senior Manager at Coreana Cosmetics and an 18-year veteran makeup artist.

Lee shared practical K-Beauty techniques in a way that resonated with global audiences:

  • “Skin is driest right after cleansing.”
Applying toner with a sponge—not hands—helps smooth skin texture, boost absorption, and improve makeup adherence.
  • For delicate areas like the eyes, use minimal foundation, apply in one direction, then tap gently for a natural finish.
  • Applying blush from the inner face upward creates a subtle face-slimming effect.
  • At home, tap in skin foundation for absorption; when heading out, finish with powder for longer wear.

“K-Beauty isn’t about heavy coverage,” Lee explained.
“It’s about natural skin expression—radiant, balanced, and refined.”

Why the World Is Following K-Beauty Now

“K-Beauty has changed its position globally,” Lee said.

“In the past, trends came from Paris or New York, and Korea followed. Now, makeup worn by K-pop idols and Korean drama actors sets the trend—and the world follows.”

Foreign visitors often bring photos of Korean celebrities, asking how to recreate specific looks. The defining trait? Skin that looks real, healthy, and effortlessly polished.

Myeongdong vs. Bukchon: Two Spaces, Two Strategies

During the Korea Grand Sale:

  • Myeongdong Welcome Center focuses on quick engagement, allowing tourists to instantly understand benefits, try experiences, and make purchases within a short stay.
  • Bukchon Play Lounge emphasizes immersion and retention, encouraging visitors to try products first, then visit nearby stores to purchase them with exclusive Korea Grand Sale benefits.

Promotional signage throughout Bukchon ensures the entire area functions as one unified brand experience, rather than isolated shops.

From Experience to Purchase—and Beyond

In an era where products can be bought online anytime, anywhere, shopping alone is no longer a strong tourism draw.

The 2026 Korea Grand Sale addresses this shift by prioritizing experience over discounts. Visitors first encounter Korean aesthetics, lifestyle, and expert know-how—then move naturally toward purchase, recommendation, and return visits.

That’s why the Korea Grand Sale is no longer just a shopping event.
It has become a gateway to Korean culture itself.

About the 2026 Korea Grand Sale

The 2026 Korea Grand Sale is a large-scale shopping and tourism festival designed to enhance Korea’s appeal to international visitors by connecting shopping, tourism, and culture.

Held from December 17 to February 22, the event operates across major tourist areas, offering shopping benefits alongside K-Beauty, K-Food, and traditional cultural experiences—all uniquely Korean, and impossible to replicate online.

KOREA FBI Editor’s Comment

K-Beauty’s true strength isn’t just in products—it’s in context.
By placing beauty inside culture, lifestyle, and expert storytelling, the Korea Grand Sale shows why Korea remains a destination worth experiencing, not just browsing.
