KPop Demon Hunters star EJAE and music producer Samuel Kim, better known as Sam Kim, have tied the knot in a surprise wedding in Seoul, celebrating their love and Korean heritage in a deeply personal way.
According to Vogue, the singer-songwriter and the producer originally planned to get married in California in November. However, they moved the wedding up by a month and held a private garden ceremony on October 17 at Stage28 in Godeok-dong, Gangdong-gu, Seoul.
The wedding was kept under wraps, making the announcement a sweet surprise for fans.
A Wedding Filled With Family Memories and Korean Heritage
The wedding venue held special meaning for EJAE. Stage28 stands on the former property of her maternal grandfather, veteran Korean actor Shin Young-kyun, who recently celebrated his 99th birthday. The site is also home to the Shin Young-kyun Arts and Culture Foundation.
EJAE, whose mother is Shin Hye-jin, vice chairwoman of Seyoung Enterprise, chose the location for its family memories. She spent precious time there with her grandfather growing up, and her older brother also held his wedding at the same venue.
Before the main ceremony, the couple celebrated pyebaek, a traditional Korean wedding ritual, at a fusion Korean restaurant in Seoul. They also attended the 16th Beautiful Artists Awards and Shin Young-kyun’s longevity celebration on October 15, sharing the special moment with her beloved grandfather just days before beginning their married life.
For EJAE and Sam Kim, the wedding was more than a romantic celebration. It was also a meaningful way to honor their Korean roots.
EJAE’s Dreamy Wedding Dresses and Sam Kim’s Custom Tuxedos
The outdoor garden wedding embraced a nature-inspired aesthetic, with elegant fashion choices that perfectly matched the intimate atmosphere.
EJAE wore a custom tulle gown by designer Danielle Frankel, paired with heirloom jewelry. For the greenhouse reception, she changed into a Zac Posen dress and a mini dress by Milla Nova.
Sam Kim looked equally stylish in a double-breasted tuxedo by New York-based Bhambi’s Custom Tailors, followed by a custom white tuxedo by Zac Posen.
The reception featured bilingual speeches, live music from the couple’s personally selected wedding band, After Eight, and an outdoor Korean street-food tent. After the official celebration, the newlyweds continued the festivities with a smaller group of friends in Itaewon.
From Music Partners to Life Partners
EJAE and Sam Kim first met during a music session in May 2017. Their relationship grew from a creative partnership into a romance, and the couple eventually built a life together in Brooklyn, New York, over the following eight years.
EJAE previously trained at SM Entertainment and has built an impressive songwriting career in K-pop. Her credits include Red Velvet’s “Psycho” and aespa’s “Drama” and “Armageddon.”
She gained worldwide recognition through Netflix’s animated hit KPop Demon Hunters, contributing vocals and songwriting to the film’s soundtrack as the lead singing voice of Rumi, a member of the fictional girl group HUNTR/X.
Sam Kim works as a music producer, songwriter, and computer programmer. Together, the couple have shared years of musical collaboration before taking their relationship to the next level.
KOREA FBI Editor’s Comment
From creating music together to getting married in a place filled with family memories, EJAE and Sam Kim’s love story feels like something straight out of a movie.
What makes this wedding especially beautiful is EJAE’s decision to celebrate her Korean heritage. Instead of choosing a glamorous destination wedding, she picked a meaningful family location in Seoul and included traditional Korean wedding customs.
And let’s talk about those wedding outfits! From Danielle Frankel’s dreamy tulle gown to the custom white tuxedo, the fashion details were absolutely stunning.
Congratulations to EJAE and Sam Kim! We hope their next chapter together is filled with love, happiness, and plenty of amazing music.
