K-pop powerhouse aespa is officially kicking off its highly anticipated comeback with the pre-release single “WDA (Whole Different Animal),” featuring none other than G-DRAGON.
The new track arrives today at 6 PM KST across major streaming platforms, immediately drawing global attention as one of the most unexpected and high-profile collaborations of 2026.
“WDA (Whole Different Animal)” is described as a hip-hop based dance track driven by massive synth bass and a heavy-hitting hook. The song also signals a darker and more evolved side of aespa, while expanding the group’s signature AI-driven universe. G-DRAGON participated not only as a featured artist, but also contributed to the rap-making process for his own verses, raising anticipation among both MYs and longtime K-pop fans worldwide.
The accompanying music video, released simultaneously through SMTOWN YouTube Channel, dives even deeper into aespa’s futuristic storytelling. Set in a world where the line between reality and digital identity has completely collapsed, the video presents mysterious figures that look identical to aespa members — but are not truly them.
As confusion spreads between originals and copies, the members fight through “Complaexity,” ultimately reclaiming and proving their real existence. The concept expands on aespa’s long-running narrative involving their virtual counterparts, ae-aespa, which has been central to the group’s identity since debut.
The visual direction also reflects growing anxieties in today’s AI and digital culture, where images and identities can be endlessly replicated and manipulated. Through this narrative, the music video naturally raises the question: what does “real” even mean anymore?
Ahead of the release, aespa will also connect with fans through a special “‘WDA’ Countdown Live” broadcast beginning at 5 PM KST via YouTube and TikTok.
Meanwhile, aespa’s highly anticipated second full-length album, “LEMONADE,” is scheduled for release on May 29 at 1 PM KST in both digital and physical formats.
KOREA FBI Editor’s Comment:
aespa has always pushed the boundaries between reality and virtual identity, but “WDA” feels like their boldest statement yet. Adding G-DRAGON into that futuristic chaos only amplifies the cultural impact — this collaboration could become one of 2026’s defining K-pop moments.
